Born in Memphis, Tennessee, in 1948, Soulman Sam is one of Austin's most beloved blues, soul, and R&B artists. Having developed his singing abilities as a youngster in Memphis and as a professional in Alaska, Sam Evans moved to the Texas capital in 2011, quickly becoming a force to be reckoned with.
A relaxed, easygoing, and sharp veteran artist, Soulman Sam is a true gem from the Golden Soul era, a hidden hero. His rare and impressive delivery and stylistic range includes the soul music of giants such as Sam Cooke, James Brown, Otis Redding, Al Green, and Solomon Burke, and blues standards by B.B. King, Bobby Bland, and Muddy Waters. Soulman has opened for artists such as Gladys Knight and the Pips, James Brown, Ike Turner, and Koko Taylor.
Fronted by Texas blues icon Marcus Tharp, Austin's Southsiders is a powerhouse band.
The Southsiders deliver a dynamic fusion of Chicago, Delta, and Jump Blues, along with Classic Memphis Soul and R&B, that spans various blues subgenres and pleases music lovers of all ages.
Tharpe showcases his versatility by transitioning seamlessly from 'Gut Bucket' Blues shouts ala Howlin' Wolf to soulful ballads from Otis Redding or Brook Benton and 'Swingin' Shufflin' scats reminiscent of T. Bone Walker and Clarence' Gatemouth' Brown.
With influences ranging from the bayou balladry of Slim Harpo to the Crescent City crooning of Antoine 'Fats' Domino. The Southsiders can also take it way down south' with some 'Bayou Balladry & Crescent City Crooning' from the likes of Slim Harpo, Chris Kenner, Larry Williams, and Antoine 'Fats' Domino, to name a few.
Backed by Texiana Blues, Michael Milligan brings powerful vocals and a unique harp style, which he describes as "Texas Blues with a Louisiana Twist."

In 1986, he relocated to Houston, performing across Texas, Louisiana, and Oklahoma. Finally, in 1992, Michael settled in Austin, where he dedicated himself to playing music full-time, entertaining audiences in Austin, throughout Texas, and even venturing into Europe.
---"Milligan is a superb vocalist, able to deliver a lyric with meaning and passion," says Andy Snipper of" Music Matters"(U.K.).
